Outdoor Living in Nashville and Belle Meade

Davidson County is part of our service area, from Nashville neighborhoods to Belle Meade. Outdoor projects here come with a different set of questions than the newer subdivisions south of town, mostly because the homes and the trees have been there a while.

Know who issues your permit

Most of Davidson County is Metro Nashville, where building permits go through Metro Codes. Belle Meade is its own city inside Davidson County, with its own permits and rules separate from Metro. A few other small cities in the county work the same way. We confirm the right office for your address before plans are drawn.

Some Nashville neighborhoods also sit in historic or conservation overlays, which add a design review for exterior changes visible from the street. Most back yard projects are less affected, but it's worth checking early.

Working with older homes

Older houses are rarely square, and their rooflines, brick and foundations weren't planned with a porch addition in mind. Tying a new roof into an older one cleanly, matching brick or trim, and finding solid structure to attach to takes more planning than on a new build. Expect us to look closely at these during the on-site visit. If we find something hidden once work starts, you get a written change order to approve before we go further.

Mature trees and tighter lots

Big established trees are a reason people love these neighborhoods. They also shape where footings and patios can go without damaging roots, and they drop leaves into gutters and screens. Lots can be tighter than in newer subdivisions, so setbacks and access for equipment and materials matter more in the design.

What works well here

  • Screened or covered porches detailed to match the original house
  • Cedar and painted trim that suit traditional architecture
  • Stone or paver patios and fire pit areas set around existing trees
  • Pergolas that give shade without a full roof tie-in

We've taken on projects in Nashville, and Belle Meade is well within our area of about 45 minutes from Franklin. See what we build or book a free on-site visit.
